About this detail

A buckling restrained brace connection frames into a steel column and frame beam assembly. A gusset plate connects to the brace steel core, with size, number, and location specified by the buckling restrained brace supplier. The frame beams feature a shear plate fastened with three 7/8-inch diameter erection bolts, with the plate thickness equal to the beam web thickness plus 1/8 inch. A cap plate is welded across the column top, with a thickness equal to the greater beam flange thickness plus 1/8 inch. Stiffener plates are provided on the near side and far side as required. Complete joint penetration welds and fillet welds secure the plates and structural members, and web stiffeners are added if required by design.
