A hollow structural section spreader beam connects to a reinforced concrete mat foundation using a half-inch thick by eight-inch wide by one-foot long embed plate anchored by four half-inch diameter by six-inch welded headed studs. The structural steel member attaches to the embed assembly with quarter-inch by four-inch by six-inch plates on each side, secured by two three-quarter-inch diameter thru-bolts in horizontal short slotted holes. Additional reinforcement consists of two number four bars at forty-eight inches minimum length embedded in the concrete mat. Fillet welds of three-sixteenths inch size typical join the connection plates. A maximum one-half inch gap is maintained at the structural interface, with top of slab and top of steel elevations sized per plan.
