An open web steel joist frames into a steel joist girder using a seven-eighths-inch by four-and-one-half-inch by zero-foot-ten-inch long knife plate positioned between the top chords. The knife plate is secured to the joist with a field weld sized at one-eighth-inch with a four-inch spacing and field flag. A nine by five by five-sixteenth-inch bent plate is attached to alternating top chords at the joist girder condition using two rows of fasteners. The bent plate connects to the girder with a three-sixteenth-inch field weld with one-and-one-half-inch by twelve-inch spacing. The joist connects directly to the girder with a three-sixteenth-inch field weld at three-inch spacing. Metal deck bears across the top chords as sized per plan, and optional girder braces are installed where specified by the manufacturer.
