Open web steel joists bear on a wide-flange girder, with joist bearing seats secured to the top flange. Connections utilize bolts for all joists with spans exceeding 40 feet. Field welds for joist bearings require 1/4 inch by 2 1/2 inch welds for LH series joists and 1/8 inch by 2 1/2 inch welds for K series joists. Where required joist bearing length exceeds girder flange width, a 3/4 inch by 13 inch joist bearing seat with a 1 inch plate must be added, necessitating an adjustment to the top of beam elevation. Roof deck attachment is determined by the project schedule.
