A wide flange beam or channel side member connects to a hollow structural section column using a one-half inch shear plate. The shear plate is welded to the main member and bolted to the supported beam web with spacing defined per schedule, maintaining a two-diameter bolt clearance and three-inch maximum edge distances with American Institute of Steel Construction minimums. A three-sixteenths inch cap plate is provided flush where applicable at the top of the hollow structural section column, which applies to sections ten inches and smaller.
