A three-quarter-inch thick structural steel gusset plate with a yield strength of fifty ksi is knife-cut through the center of the hollow structural section members. The truss bottom chord steel beam ties into the assembly with full height web stiffeners on each side and at the gusset edge maintaining a one-inch clearance. Double angle web members attach to the gusset plate using three seven-eighth-inch diameter A325 bolts with two-inch minimum edge distance. Fillet welds of five-sixteenth-inch size secure the gusset to the steel beam and to the hollow structural section column. A vertical hollow structural section member connects below the beam intersection with its working point located at one-half the beam and column depth. At similar conditions, diagonals and gussets are omitted as indicated by drawing notes.
