An aluminum window frame connects below a six-inch stud header framed within an interior partition. Five-eighths-inch gypsum wallboard clads both sides of the stud framing down to the window head. Shims are installed as required between the header framing and the aluminum storefront frame. Joint sealant with a backer rod is applied to both sides of the interface between the gypsum board and the window frame.
