A hollow structural section column sized per plan bears onto a three-quarter-inch plate matching the column width plus one inch. Half-inch thick full-depth stiffener plates are welded to each side of the beam web using quarter-inch welds on three sides typically. The column base plate connects to the wide flange beam using four seven-eighth-inch high-strength bolts on standard wide flange beam gauge at the narrow wide flange beam per Detail A. Five-sixteenth-inch welds secure the column to the base plate on each side. A concrete fill over steel deck is shown, with an optional deck support per drawing twenty over S-seven-point-zero where required.
