A wide flange steel column topped with a cap plate matching the flange thickness with a one-half inch minimum. Bolted tab plate connections secure wide flange beams to both sides of the column flange and web, with a two-sided connection applied where required. Weld sizes for the connection are specified in a schedule based on the cap plate thickness, ranging from three-sixteenths to five-sixteenths of an inch. Web and flanges are detailed to stop one-eighth inch from the edge.
