A hollow structural section strut connection utilizes welded gusset plates and embedded steel plates within a concrete assembly. The connection incorporates 1/4-inch and 5/16-inch fillet welds, low-hydrogen welding electrodes, and embedded reinforcing bars including three or four #6 bars at 5 feet zero inches long. Epoxy grout is specified after welding at the 4x4-W2.1xW2.1 welded wire fabric. The assembly includes 1/2-inch and 3/4-inch steel plates sized per plan to transfer loads between the HSS strut and the concrete support.
