An L4x3x1/4 long leg horizontal angle is provided at the escalator opening only to support the slab edge, maintaining a two-inch minimum bearing requirement. A three-eighths-inch stiffener plate, fitted to bear and backed by a backing strip, is welded to the supporting wide flange beam web with typical quarter-inch fillet welds. The escalator truss bears adjacent to the centerline of the beam, requiring careful coordination with the escalator manufacturer for the bearing seat and infill slab edge alignment.
