This structural steel connection details a hollow structural section column supporting steel beams with a diagonal brace. A 3/8-inch thick ASTM A572 Grade 50 plate with standard holes connects the steel beams using four 7/8-inch diameter A325N high-strength bolts on each side. A 1/2-inch thick ASTM A572 Grade 50 gusset plate is welded to the column and connects to the diagonal brace slotted for the gusset thickness. Fillet welds of 5/16-inch and 1/4-inch sizes secure the gusset plate and framing elements as indicated by standard welding symbols. A 3/4-inch diameter A307 bolt ties the brace to the gusset plate assembly with specified clearances and a maximum 1/8-inch assembly gap.
