An HSS beam connects to a wide flange column using top and bottom structural angles sized L4x4x1/2. The top and bottom angles are welded to the column flange or web with five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds on both sides. The HSS beam connects to the angles with quarter-inch fillet welds on three sides, maintaining a maximum half-inch clearance unless noted otherwise. A similar angle detail is provided for connections to the wide flange column depth minus two and a half times the design parameter k.
