A structural steel column base plate is anchored to a concrete slab on grade at an interior location. Additional number four reinforcing bars are placed diagonally around the base plate assembly. The surrounding slab features a construction joint, control joint, or weakened plane located one foot six inches out with five-inch typical spacing.
