Steel beams frame into opposite sides of a structural column with a continuous top drag plate centered on the column. The Grade 50 plate measures three-quarters of an inch thick by five inches wide by three feet six inches long, with a three-inch wide plate used where the flange width is less than six inches. A five-sixteenths inch fillet weld is specified along the plate, left unwelded across the column. The beams connect to the column flange using standard shear tabs welded on three sides with a quarter-inch fillet weld and bolted with three bolts per connection.
