A hollow structural section column terminates with a welded cap plate scaled by column size, using a three-eighths inch plate for sections six by six or smaller and a one-half inch plate for sections seven by seven or larger. A shear tab is welded to the face of the column for framing structural members, referencing typical connection details for bolt configurations. The column cap plate is welded with a typical offset detail.
