An HSS column connects below a concrete slab and reinforcing sized per plan, maintaining a 1-inch gap and a 2-inch clearance. The connection utilizes an embedded plate measuring 5/8 by 14 inches by 1 foot 2 inches with four 1/2-inch diameter by 6-inch headed studs. Additional reinforcing includes two number 4 bars by 48 inches each way for a total of four bars. Two L4x4x1/4 by 4-inch angles are welded to the HSS column with 1/4-inch fillet welds typical.
