This structural steel detail shows non-frame beam to hollow structural section or pipe column moment connections for both continuous and discontinuous column conditions. The assembly incorporates shear plates with thickness and geometry sized per plan, extending one-half inch at one-sided and three-sided connections. A one-quarter inch cap plate is provided where a post occurs, featuring a complete joint penetration weld at the cap plate and a complete penetration weld all around at the column splice. Bolt diameters are spaced with a maximum one-half inch typical clearance. Drag plates must continue through the column when drag connections are denoted on plan.
