The top track of a cold-formed steel stud wall is spliced midway between studs using an 18 gauge by 14 inch web clip cut to match the stud width. The joint is fastened with twelve number 10 screws spaced at three-quarters of an inch on center on both sides of the joint. Alternate welding of one-eighth inch fillet welds at six inches on center secures the connection.
