A slab-on-grade construction joint utilizes a diamond-shaped load plate to transfer shear loads between adjacent concrete pours. The assembly sits atop compacted subgrade and comprises a first slab placement and a second slab placement meeting at a vertical joint line. Reinforcing steel is discontinued at the joint location to allow independent slab movement. A diamond dowel load plate is embedded mid-depth at T/2, with sizing and on-center spacing determined by the slab thickness T per the accompanying schedule.
