Two aligned wide flange beams connect end-to-end at a field splice location centered over a hollow structural section column support. A vertical shear plate with four bolts ties the beam webs together across a one-half inch clearance gap. A stiffener plate is welded inside the right beam web directly above the column support using a three-sixteenths inch fillet weld on three sides. The right beam rests on a bolted connection plate bearing directly onto the top of the HSS column. Unnotified plate thicknesses, bolt sizes, and weld specifications refer to sheet A/S5.11.
