A hollow structural section column connects to a supporting steel beam or column using complete-joint-penetration welds and grade 50 stiffener plates on each side. Full-depth stiffeners are welded to the steel column and steel beam at perpendicular framing intersections. A bolted shear tab or similar web connection secures the intersecting steel beam. Fillet welds of one-quarter inch minimum size are applied at the steel beam connections.
