A concrete slab on grade features a thickened slab edge adjacent to an existing concrete beam, separated by an isolation joint. A stem wall and thickened slab edge occur at the slab step condition. The assembly bears above compacted structural backfill over an existing tunnel lid with a maximum depth of eight feet, situated above an existing sloped concrete slab over an escalator.
