An existing wide flange beam is reinforced with a bottom flange plate attached via a three-sixteenths inch fillet weld with a three to twelve intermittent spacing. A nine-sixteenths inch minimum clearance is maintained at the flange edge. A reinforcement type schedule provides plate widths of seven inches or five and one-half inches and plate thicknesses ranging from one-quarter inch to one inch.
