An HSS or wide-flange column connects to a supporting steel beam via a three-quarter-inch base plate and four three-quarter-inch diameter A325N bolts. Full-depth three-eighths-inch stiffener plates are welded to each side of the beam web using five-sixteenths fillet welds and aligned with the column above. The column centerline aligns with the supporting beam web, maintaining typical clearances and edge distances as referenced in the structural plans and schedules.
