The assembly connects W12x72 steel beams to a W14x211 structural steel column using bolted top plates measuring 1-inch by 12-5/8 inches and typical beam-to-column web connections. Eight 1-1/4-inch diameter by 3-inch F1852 high-strength bolts secure each top plate and beam flange. A pair of 1-inch by 5-3/4-inch A572-50 stiffener plates (B/S) are welded to the beam web with five-sixteenths fillet welds on three sides. Diagonal braces frame into gusset plates welded to the column web and stiffener plates using five-eighths fillet welds, secured with multiple rows of 1-1/4-inch diameter by 3-1/2-inch F1852 bolts. Additional 1-inch by 7-1/4-inch stiffener plates are welded horizontally inside the column flanges to transfer lateral loads from the gusset plates.
