A hollow structural section post, specifically an HSS 4x4x3/8, connects to a concrete foundation through a square base plate. The base plate measures 3/4 inch by 10 inches square and is welded to the HSS post with a 5/16-inch fillet weld typical on all sides. Four 3/4-inch diameter anchor bolts secure the base plate to the concrete mat footing, embedded 6 inches deep with hooked ends. A 1 1/2-inch layer of non-shrink grout fills the space beneath the base plate above the top of the mat footing.
