A wide flange steel beam frames into a wide flange steel column web using a connection plate. The connection plate welds to the column flange with a fillet weld and connects to the beam web using bolts. A one-half-inch plate is required for beams twenty-one inches and less, while a five-eighths-inch plate is required for beams twenty-four inches and larger. Line up the plate with the edge of the column flange and clear the k distance. Bolts, weld sizes, and connection plates follow typical steel beam web connection details and schedules.
