A wide-flange or hollow structural section column bears on a base plate secured by anchor bolts with leveling nuts and plate washers over a concrete footing. A one-and-a-half-inch non-shrink grout layer fills the space beneath the base plate above the finished floor line. Ten-mil Visqueen is placed over the footing beneath the concrete fill and slab. A continuous sheet of flexible foam isolation joint filler surrounds the column with sealant at all columns. A circular or diamond block-out is provided where the column does not align with intersecting slab joints.
