A wide flange steel beam frames into a wide flange column web with complete joint penetration welds on the beam web and flanges. Cap plates and continuity plates are fabricated from ASTM A572 Grade 50 steel, matched in thickness to the thickest welded beam flange plus one-eighth inch and matched to the width of the column. Weld access holes are provided at the top and bottom beam flanges, with three sides welded using complete joint penetration typical details.
