A welded plate girder field splice features complete joint penetration groove welds on the top and bottom flanges and the web. Standard weld access holes are provided at the top and bottom of the vertical splice joint. A one-foot minimum dimension is required from the web splice to adjacent flange details, with specific distances L noted at the plate girder ends. The location of the splice is referenced to the plate girder elevation.
