A steel beam sized per plan bears on a steel cap plate secured to the top of a column, with the cap plate dimensions sized per schedule. Three-eighth-inch steel stiffener plates are welded to each side of the beam web and flange using one-quarter-inch fillet welds on three sides typical. The beam flanges connect to the cap plate using anchor bolts or threaded fasteners spaced one and one-half inches on center.
