The steel column is anchored to the foundation via a 1 1/2-inch thick A572 Grade 50 base plate secured by four 1 1/2-inch diameter anchor rods. A 1 1/2-inch by 1 1/2-inch clip is provided at the column base, which sits atop 1 1/2 inches of non-shrink grout. A 1/4-inch by 4-inch by 9-inch A572 Grade 50 shear lug is welded to the underside of the base plate and set into a block-out in the footing or plinth, which is subsequently filled with non-shrink grout. The buckling restrained brace connects to the column through an A572 Grade 50 gusset plate, which is welded to the column flange and web. A 3/4-inch length of the gusset plate is left unwelded to the column near the brace connection point. The base plate features 2 3/8-inch diameter holes for the anchor rods and is welded to the column with 5/16-inch fillet welds.
