A structural steel beam connects to a frame column flange through complete joint penetration welds at the top and bottom flanges. Continuous plates are welded top and bottom on both sides, with backing left in place and attached with five-sixteenths inch continuous fillet welds or backgouged per project notes. The beam web is joined to the column flange using complete joint penetration welds along with a bolted erection plate provided by the steel fabricator.
