A typical column splice used in buckling-restrained braced frame systems utilizes complete joint penetration groove welds at the flanges designated as demand critical welds typically unless noted otherwise. An erection plate is included as required by the contractor, positioned with a four-foot six-inch typical dimension to the top of steel. Notes indicate that the column splice is optional and its location must be submitted to the engineer for approval.
