A W16 beam frames into a W8 column using a structural steel kicker brace assembly. The kickers are constructed from double angles (2L3X2 LLBB) connected via 3/8-inch gusset plates and secured with two 3/4-inch diameter high-strength bolts each. A 3/8-inch stiffener plate is welded to the top and bottom flanges of the column. Fillet welds of 1/4-inch size connect the gusset plates and angles. The assembly maintains specified clearances including a 1/2-inch maximum gap and a 1-inch maximum setback.
