Steel column splices feature a cap plate sized 1-1/2 inches thick for W8 or W10 shapes and 2 inches thick for W12 or larger shapes, with 1/2 inch by 16 inch stiffener plates on the near side and far side. Mill column ends connect with web perpendicular and web parallel configurations using fillet welds specified as 3/8 inch typical at the flange and 7/16 inch typical at the web. Welds are noted as not required at W10x and smaller shapes to steel. Plate sizes and dimensions follow standard AISC guidelines with typical clearances.
