An HSS stub column of size 5x5x1/4 connects vertically between steel beams sized per plan with variable offsets. A shear tab welded to the steel beam web connects to the HSS stub column using three bolts. A base connection plate with bolts secures the bottom of the HSS stub to the top flange of the lower steel beam. Where shear tab connections occur within two feet of the HSS stub, a full-depth stiffener is provided as a shear tab. Where no connection occurs, an angle brace aligned with the stub is provided per sheet S5.2, and conditions with offsets exceeding four feet require verification.
