A hollow structural section splice connection is reinforced with plates measuring 1 inch by 1 and 3/4 inches by 1 foot 6 inches long on each side, secured with quarter-inch fillet welds. A wood nailer matching the beam flange width is attached using 7/8-inch diameter welded threaded rods spaced at 16 inches on center staggered on the beam, with countersanks limited to a 3/4-inch maximum depth. One threaded rod is positioned within 9 inches maximum from each end of the nailer and from each splice. A steel beam supports a sub-purlin as sized per plan, with provisions for 5-inch diameter maximum holes for pipes at 10 feet on center minimum when required by approved sprinkler drawings.
