An existing wide-flange beam connects to a hollow structural section column using three-eighths-inch plates on each side secured by a one-inch-diameter A325 through-bolt in a long slotted hole. The concrete slab on metal deck is notched around the hollow structural section column as necessary. A typical fillet weld joins the connection assembly to the structural members.
