A one-half inch web doubler plate is welded against one side of the steel column web to reinforce the zone against high shear forces from framing wide-flange beams. The plate fits within the column K-area and fills the gap between flanges as required by the connection design. Beam connection plates are provided where indicated, aligning with the centerline of the column.
