An ordinary moment frame column bears on a two-inch thick A572 Grade 50 steel base plate secured by fourteen number ten threaded bars with seventeen inches of embedment through oversized holes with weld washers. The column web is joined to the plate with a three-eighths inch fillet weld ten inches long, and complete joint penetration welds are used typically at the column flanges. Weld washers are welded with a one-quarter inch fillet weld typically.
