A steel beam sized per plan connects to a hollow structural section hanger using a one-half inch knife plate slotted and welded into the assembly. Three-eighths inch stiffener plates are welded to each side of the beam web with one-quarter inch fillet welds. The knife plate is secured to the hollow structural section hanger with a complete joint penetration weld. Additional fillet welds secure the connection assembly as detailed.
