An MCx drag beam connects to a coped steel joist top chord with three-sixteenths inch fillet welds typical, maintaining a maximum four-inch gap and a half-inch maximum gap at the MCx member. A quarter-inch by five-inch by one-foot-zero-inch plate spans the center line of the joist and is omitted where the MCx is present on one side only. Steel deck is installed per plan across the assembly. Two distinct conditions are detailed: Case I with one low flute at the MCx utilizing a three-quarter-inch weld spaced at six inches, and Case II with two low flutes at the MCx utilizing a three-quarter-inch weld spaced at twelve inches.
