An open-web steel joist is reinforced for intermediate concentrated loads ranging from fifty to five hundred pounds using structural tee shapes and angle web members. For loads between fifty and three hundred pounds, L1x1x1/8 angles are welded to each side of the web when dimension X exceeds six inches, using one-eighth-inch fillet welds. When dimension X exceeds six inches for heavier loads, a WT4x5 tee section is extended to the next adjacent joist panel point. Reinforcement is omitted where the bottom chord has been specifically designed for concentrated loads per the structural framing notes. All steel connections are detailed with standard fillet welds.
