A structural steel brace connection frames steel pipe braces into a continuous steel beam using a five-eighths-inch thick gusset plate. The pipe braces slide over the gusset plate through a pre-cut slot sized to the gusset thickness plus one-sixteenth of an inch, terminating with one-inch diameter relief holes at the base of the slot. Five-sixteenths-inch fillet welds secure the gusset plate to the steel beam web, and quarter-inch fillet welds attach the pipe braces to the gusset. The connection detail specifies a one-inch typical clearance and a one-foot three-inch working point dimension for the vertical brace member.
