This moment connection joins a wide-flange beam to a wide-flange column using a three-eighths inch by six inch by four inch plate. The beam flanges are connected to the column with complete-joint-penetration welds that are back-gouged on both the top and bottom flanges. A three-quarter inch thick continuity plate is installed at the column web and flanges on both the near side and far side to provide stiffening. The beam web is connected to the column with five-sixteenths inch fillet welds on both sides of the web. The column flange is also prepared with a complete-joint-penetration weld and back-gouged for the flange plate connection on all sides.
