A wide flange beam sits on a one-half inch by beam-width bearing plate welded to the top of a hollow structural section steel column with a three-sixteenths inch fillet weld. The beam flange is secured to the bearing plate with two three-quarters inch diameter bolts located at the beam gauge. The assembly transfers vertical gravity loads directly from the beam into the centerline of the column.
