A steel column web doubler plate is positioned against one side of the column web to reinforce the connection zone for heavy beam-to-column framing. The detail specifies coping and corner radius requirements where the plate meets the column flanges, with dimensioning formulas based on web thickness. Bevels and groove welds follow AWS D1.8 structural welding standards for seismic applications. Clearances are provided to permit tight fit of backing bars and smooth transitions between the web and flange.
