A continuous flanged neoprene control joint is installed vertically within the masonry wall assembly, flanked by typical vertical reinforcing bars on each side of the joint. Horizontal reinforcing bars are stopped short of the joint except at designated chord bars. The joint gap is backed with a compressible backup rod and sealed continuously on each side with caulking sealant. A similar caulking and backup rod detail is applied at the wall abutment joint where intersecting masonry walls meet.
